I liked this film quite a bit, and appreciated its wise, verisimilitudinous screenplay, its impeccable performances, and its slow, subdued feel.

At the same time, the irreverent side of me couldn't help but imagine how great it would've been if Ozu had had a sense of humor that would've allowed him to include Godzilla rampaging in the distance in some of the outdoor shots.

I particularly like the way you use the word "verisimilitudinous" and then talk about inserting Godzilla into an Ozu movie in the same post.
