Postscript

Six months later young Sheriff Owens was killed by a shotgun blast to the back of his head just outside of town while investigating the theft of a pig. There were no witnesses. It was rumored, but never proven, that Bart Bogardus was involved in the murder. Millie Owens (nee Parker) moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she married a shopkeeper.
