Did it disturb anoyone else when...

it showed her strangling her daughter with the cord from the blinds on he window?

Peace.Love.Tight Pants. And Jonas.

That incident actually happened but it was not nearly as dramatic or dangerous as was portrayed in the 1957 movie. True stories had to be tweaked then just as they have to be tweaked now for dramatic purposes.

Peace.Love.
Tight Pants? Who's "Jonas"?

A bit, because you wonder how on earth could a mother do that to her child? Then you realize that her mother isn't her mother at all, and she hasn't been her mother for a long time...but personally, I found it more disturbing when Eve, or rather Jane's mother forced her to kiss the corpse of her grandmother.

reply

The real subject's mother didn't try to force the child to kiss the dead grandmother's face. Another female relative did that and her mother took her away from that frightening experience. The child had already been experiencing DID/MPD a long time before. The individual did relive that event toward the end of her "therapy" with Drs. Thigpen and Cleckley but it was not at all any kind of original trauma that caused her disorder to begin with.

The subsequent "disappearance" of the two "Eves," leaving only "Jane" wasn't the whole or final reality for the subject.

In fairness to Dr. Corbett Thigpen and Dr. Hervey Cleckly, they only originally reported the subject to the American Psychiatric Association using the familiar "Eve White"/"Eve Black" pseudonyms. The eventual book (intended to be only a monograph for other professionals) and movie ballooned from all that.

reply

yeah it was disturbing the first time I seen the film but then realizing later that she wasn't in control of her actions and emotions made it less desturbing
