The two teenage boys escape from the basement prison, leave the house, build a raft, then return to the basement prison and lock themselves back in!

If one is having a bad day, a viewing of this movie should make he or she laugh a number of times.

Girls would not have been killed. Mind-Wiped, sure, just like they were anyway.
Locking themselves back in didn't matter, if you recall, the lock was broken. The bigger issue is what they would have done on a raft in a 312 mile lake.
