Like the movie
Hi,
I watch the movie, and I liked it. How about the rest of you?
Peace,
Amanda
Yes, it's a great film and fine reteaming of Rock Hudson, Dorothy Malone, and Robert Stack. Hudson's performance, in particular, is among the very best I've seen of his work so far.
"Dry your eyes baby, it's out of character."
It has a sort of graceful pathos to it, and I like how Sirk emphasizes long takes and mise-en-scene to create a sense of haunting space and disconnection, while using montage for rupture and contrast.
shareHudson's performance is indeed very good, as is Dorothy Mallone's. Great CinemaScope cinematography. All in all, a very good film.
shareSirk brought performances from the trio of Hudson, Stack, and Malone no other director ever had before. And people forget just how good Middleton (A tragically underrated performer) and Carson were in this.

I agree. I am not sure if there are many books about the film's director, Douglas Sirk. I have one of them, "Sirk on Sirk: Interviews with Jon Halliday" 1972, The Viking Press. I highly recommend it.

Liked it very much.
The story is a bit silly, but hey, this is Sirk. The black and white photography was beautiful, and I found myself often pressing the "pause" on the remote to enjoy the single frame.
Well worth the viewing.
