Sunshine Girl my motto is Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I bought a spanish version of this film recently on DVD, it has an English audio with Spanish sub titles. It's a great film and once again Robert Stack gives a superb performance as the tormented aviator. It's such a shame that as a movie actor he was so little used and underrated. I am constantly on the lookout for his films. At the moment I am looking for The Iron Glove and John Paul Jones, If there is anyone who has these films on video and can transfer them to DVD I am willing to pay a fair price plus postage and packing. Just PM me.

I voted; I'm watching a VHS from my video store and I'm shocked--shocked!--to find that it isn't the widescreen version that Sirks intended and that it's pan-and-scan; "formatted to fit your screen" my ass.

I hope it gets a Criterion release sometime in the future, as they're clearly a fan of Sirk, and that regardless of the DVD company, the widescreen will be preserved.

The Tarnished Angels is in CinemaScope and seeing that pan-and-scan is well you're not really seeing a film just a fascimile, an excerpt really. It's one of the great 'Scope masterpieces.

The Tarnished Angels is out on DVD in Europe and Japan for those with all-region DVD players. Criterion should release it. It's adapted from William Faulkner's Pylon(not one of his great ones admittedly but still fine) and it's generally regarded as the greatest film adaptation of Faulkner. Criterion could also release A Time To Love and A Time To Die made in the same year(1958 could be the Year of the Sirk), it's adapted from Erich Maria Remarque(he himself acts a role in the film). They like literary adaptations.
