Why Debbie only played Tammy once?

She was far better than Sandra, it's such a shame.

This is only a guess, but at age 25 she was just about at her limit for playing a youthful role such as Tammy.

I think you're right, C-Cat.

The very next year, Debbie played a woman "fully growed" for producer Ross Hunter in a funny movie called "This Happy Feeling" opposite two great leading men, John Saxon and Curt Jergens. She and her handlers probably felt that she should move ahead in her roles and not go back to the teen-ager in jeans that she played in a lot of her early movies.

Try to find "This Happy Feeling" for another terrific Reynolds performance.

I just watched it on TCM, and Robert Osborne said that it was because MGM didn't want to loan her out to Universal again, since the movie became a hit upon its re-release.

"Why do you find it so hard to believe?"
"Why do you find it so easy?"
"It's never BEEN easy!"
