Can it be a coincidence that this movie was released the same year as The Miracle Worker aired on TV's Playhouse 90? Hell, no!

Helen Keller was a celebrity through the 20th century and certainly through the 50s. The Story of Esther Costello was a crass maneuver to cash in on the Helen Keller story during the Miracle Worker run.

The first people to notice that were Helen and her staff. There was almost a big lawsuit! They decided it wasn't worth it.
