why can't i find this anywhere?

I watched this as a child, and would like to find a copy of this, whether the Russian original or first English redub. All I can find now is the very latest redub with Kathleen Turner.. I would like to find the Sandra Dee/Tommy Kirk version. Anyone out there know where I can find it?

Check out K-Mart. They have a display in their video and/or Christmas aisles of bargain holiday DVDs...you can pick up this version of SNOW QUEEN for $1.99. It's not as good as the print GoodTimes used on their VHS release of a few years ago, but it's better than nothing, especially at that price.

I don't know if it has English subs though. http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/1568212/

I disagree -- this is a great animated film, and its influence on modern animation, especially the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata at Studio Ghibli, cannot be denied. In this sense it is "proto-Ghibli", along with Hakujaden and Le Roi et L'oiseau. You probably saw one of the English dubs, which I have not seen, but I'm sure they're bad. See it in the original Russian, with an English translation script in hand -- there are no subtitles available for this film.

The Sandra Dee/Tommy Kirk version with intro by Art Linkletter can be purchased on DVD here:

I just bought it a couple of weeks ago at a Walgreen's in San Francisco for $2. It's on a DVD called Christmas Classics, along with the 1946 Rudolph and several others I'd never seen or heard of before.

There seems to be a DVD out now of the original Russian film with English subtitles:

It's by Films by Jove, the same company which released the latest version with the English soundtrack. I guess they were taken aback by all the people who wanted the original soundtrack, and so have released a DVD with it now.
