"Humorless"??

It literally blew my mind that many consider this to have no comic relief at all.

There's atleast one humorous quip in every scene. It's practically a low-key comedy.. Okay that might be pushing it but I did laugh out loud several times.

I just watched it for the first time in about ten years, and there's many chuckles to be had. The scene with the actor in the tree is by itself a really healthy dose of humor. Bergman and Lars von Trier (both Scandinavians, hmmmmm) I think are both brilliant directors whose general reputation as being completely dour are a bit unfair. Even a casual glance at their work reveals a sense of humor, though of course whether one enjoys their particular style or not is a different question.

There is humour in the film, even black humour.

I was also surprised to see the funny bits. I have found that many arthouse film goers have a weird aversion to humor and levity in films. With this movie being one of the most celebrated arthouse films in the world, I suppose they overlook the wittiness of it.
