Fine acting by extras and minor characters

I hesitated before recording this film for future viewing, but was intrigued by the presence of Richard Widmark and a host of fine British actors. Overall I was very impressed with the film and did NOT delete it after viewing. It's worth seeing again if only to study some of the scenes - notably that of Joan's arrival at the Dauphin's court - where there are extras reacting to the situation without any lines to speak. I don't know how much of this was choreographed or left to the actors' professionalism, but they were very good indeed.

Of those actors with just a few lines Bernard Miles did very well as the executioner whose facial expressions revealed some doubt that Joan should be put to death. So too did Victor Maddern as the soldier who fashioned a cross for Joan before she died and who re-appeared as a ghost released one day a year from Hell for that one good deed.

And I see that David Hemmings has an uncredited "minor role".

(I've been scrupulous and warned of "spoilers" though I imagine most viewers would know the ending already?)
