Ms. Seberg's IMDb billing...

Jean Seberg plays the title character, and she's not only is she not on the main page for the cast listing, but she's last billed in IMDb's credits. To quote Cliff Clavin, "What's up with that?!"

I know! Though exactly the same thing as I was looking at this - it's pretty outrageous really, not least as Ms Seberg is far and away the best thing about the film, giving a truly luminous performance. Anyone know how we can get this changed???

reply

I thought the same thing, too. I'm guessing you'd have to be a member of IMDb Pro to get any action taken.

IMDB's billing is probably taken from the movie's titles where Jean Seberg's name also appears last. It was her first film up against a number of well known thesps. Her placing at the end is, in effect, an "introducing" title - but also an important position at the end.

The fact she is not on the main page here does seem unfair - I agree her performance is luminous - but it does reflect the film's billing.

That is an excellent point, surly. Since I've posted my reply I have noticed that many billings are done on 'in order of appearance' as well.

It's a shame that IMDb cast listings do not take into account the age-old honor of "...and the last shall be first", or reserving this last billing for the 'Introducing' credit.
For certainly they honored Jean Seberg as such in the film. But IMDb doesn't seem to recognize this subtlety; consequently, it does a real disservice to some fine actors.
A canny member commented above that only IMDb Pro could get action on this; but if we who are concerned were to collectively lodge a formal request that they reconsider their listing process, we may be able to right this long-term issue?

Those interested please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to write a first draft that any interested members could add their thoughts to.

Bonsoir!
