Great classic western

I really liked this film. It's in the 50's classic style. Great scenery, realistic plot. Julie London was great as a stepford frontier wife. Great early Cassavetes.

Yeah, i liked it too. It was quite blandly shot, which worked in favour of the realism. The confrontations were not telegraphed or filmed in a conventional style. I also liked the contrast between the stocky, abrasive Cassevetes and the stoic, more withdrawn Taylor. The ending is one of the most neutral i've seen in a Western.

I wonder if any regulars on the Classic Film board have seen this film.

Have you seen Anthony Mann's "Man of the West"?

Check out "No name on the bullet" with Audie Murphy. Also "Terror in a Texas Town" with Sterling Hayden.

"Tribute to a Bad Man" (1956) with James Cagney was very much in the same vein as this movie.

GUNMAN'S WALK with Van Heflin, Tab Hunter, was also along the lines of this film and was done very well. If you have not seen it and like quality westerns with good drama flavor then see GUNMAN'S WALK.
