I read that this was the first movie to ever show blood spatter? Is this true?

I don't know about it being the first but there is a brief blood spatter at the end when Rod Stiger does a mercy killing by shooting a captured officer in the head who is being tortured.

I just can't get enough minimalism.

The Polish film Pokolenie (A Generation) showed blood spatter effects from gunshots in 1955 though I can't say whether this was a first.
