Trailer for Revenge of Frankenstein

I'ved enjoyed this movie for years, having first seen it on the late show when it was about ten years old. I only picked up the DVD recently and was delighted with the 1958 trailer.I thought it was almost as clever as the trailer for Psycho. Each one is a small gem, helping to create audience curiosity about the movie.

The trailer begins with Peter Cushing in period costume, standing in a Hammer castle set, staring directly at the audience and announcing, " I am Baron Frankenstein. In 1860, I was condemned to death on the guillotine..."

He goes on to narrate his story, with clips from the 1957 Curse of Frankenstein, showing the Creature (Christopher Lee) coming to life and going on a rampage, and Frankenstein's being led out to his execution. The trailer then shifts to the new 1958 scenes, with Frankenstein discussing his latest experiment with his new assistant ( Francis Matthews).

Cushing returns to stare at the audience again and announce that he will have his revenge...

I thought this was fabulous. Did anyone else enjoy it as much? Did Terence Fisher direct it himself? Really makes me wish I could have seen these movies in theatres back when they were new.

Does anyone recall seeing this trailer in 1958?

Just watched the film and then the trailer. Both are excellent. I love the idea of Peter Cushing addressing the audience in character.

I like the trailer too. I really wish horror was the same way now as it was in those days. This movie is 56 years old yet it's still great today.

Burn, witch! Burn, witch! Burn! Burn! Burn!
