RAINTREE COUNTY FESTIVAL '07

Fans of the movie may want to know that there is a big celebration planned in Danville, Kentucky
July 24, to August 05, 2007 for the 50th year aniversary of Raintree County's production. When MGM came to town in 1956, with Elizabeth Taylor and Monty Cliff in tow, it made a huge big impression and many in Danville can fondly remember the Hollywoodization of their small town... and will retel their experiences in a town festival and play performed at Pioneer Playhouse. Come check it out. More info at www.raintreecountyfestival.com

I'm not sure about the hoopla surrounding the original filming 50 years ago, but the festival sounds unique and interesting. Unfortunately, the only two members of the all-star cast who could still attend a festival are Elizabeth Taylor and Eva Marie Saint. However, Elizabeth Taylor's stand-in will be there, and her name was also Elizabeth Taylor at the time. Plus, they have located some 80 people who live in the Danville, Kentucky area who were involved in the filming, and have taped interviews that will run on large screen tv's continuousely throughout the two-week celebration. Also, Catherine Bush has written an original play about the effects of this 'Hollywood Mania' on smalltown America. It will premier during the festival at Pioneer Playhouse, which is the state's oldest outdoor theatre and the box office is actually the train depot which was built for the movie set. Should be an interesting two weeks.

I lived in Danville for almost a year and there are an extremely friendly and welcoming community. They are very proud of their history and to honor the city I am writing a movie to take place in Danville. I hope to secure all the financials by late spring to begin filming this summer, but if not then definately the summer of 2008, I WILL be there!! Anyone interested in funding the movie, please contact me!! The Festival should be great. However, I never got a chance to check out the Brass Band Festival...I hope to one day.

Some ten years past, I met and worked with Ron Chilton at a local radio station in Louisville, Kentucky. Ron was Montgomery Cliff's stand-in, in the 1957 MGM production.

Although I haven't seen him in over a decade, Ron is a pretty cool guy and had many stories to tell about the film's production and those who worked on it. He even told me about another MGM production that he had been involved with some two decades later.

That production was the 1976 MGM science fiction classic Logan's Run.
