Nell in the book

So I'm reading the books, and I feel like I'm missing a chapter or something, because it seams that the main character comes home from war, and never goes to find Nell. Did i skip pages by mistake or something? The book is so so long, and I wouldn't even know where to go back and find what i missed because of how the book is arranged.
