Can someone kindly help me?

I struggled to keep awake to see the last 20 minutes of this film last night (actually early morning). It seems I can never see this movie in its entirety, always catching snippets (and never the ending).

I've griped about this before, and I absolutely love TCM, but why do they run so many great and epic films in impossible wee hours and,too often, a lot of crap in prime time? (not that this is a really great film IMO).

Anyway, I actually caught it from the very beginning and dozed a few times for no longer than 2 or 3 minutes, not losing the thread of the plot I don't think.

Of course, I fell off completely about 20 minutes before the end and awoke just as the "exit music" came on the screen. Very pissed off to have invested so much time in the film ONLY TO MISS THE DENOUMENT!!!.

The last thing I recall seeing/hearing was John telling that prick Garwood, in the presence of most of the assembled and essential cast of the film, "the only party you have ever belonged to is the party of yourself" (paraphrasing).

Would someone be kind enough to tell me what happened after this: I'll take anything, broad strokes or as much detail as you want to provide. Your analysis would be most welcomed, too. I loved certain aspects of this film. Thank you in advance!!!

You might want to go to this link at TCM, they have a full synopsis and it is in good detail..it should answer your question as to what you missed. I dvr'd the movie (so I can fall asleep or not...LOL) It came on at midnight my local time, so no way would I have made it thru the whole thing. I've been watching it this evening, still have about 1/2 of it to watch yet, it's been many, many years since I last saw it.

Can't say it's one of my favorite films, but as Elizabeth Taylor just passed, I'm interested in re-watching a lot of her films. I do marvel at the costuming and vivid colors in the film.

Thank you very much, I was unaware of this detailed synopsis thing on their site--I can be so lazy, but I am also otherwise busy. If I used DVR and/or TiVO I have no doubt that I would end up amassing months and months of movies and other programming in nearly equivocal real-time (actually, I think there is a limit to how much programming you can record before filling up the device's memory...don't know, utterly ignorant about that technology). Due to what is becoming a distracting obsession with film, I would, and may yet still, end up having a nervous/exhaustion breakdown. I would never be able to watch most of what I recorded---furthermore, I would not get anything else done and my infrastructure would surely crack and collapse eventually. I know, I know, I sound like a nutjob...and I arguably am.

BTW, exact ditto to your last paragraph. I have never been a big Liz Taylor fan (mainly because, imo, she became so unhinged in the past few decades of her life...sorry to be disrespectful to the recently deceased, but it is part of my point). Still, no one can deny that her performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff" is one of the most powerful and searing in all of film history. Burton was no slouch either. Actually, outstanding performances from all four leads. OK, I've derailed here, but I thank you kindly my friend.

You are very welcome...sorry for delay in reading your response, but was on vacation and just started perusing movie boards again!
