Quartermass Gets Smacked, But

is right back on his feet! That is what legends do! The plot of 2 is better than Xperiment, but somehow this movie is not as entertaining. Possibly a bit too long in places.

I found this was better than Xperiment, lots more action drama and suspense.

I thought Donlevy was a more `human' Quatermass in this sequel. He isn't quite the arrogant control-freak that we see in the `Xperiment'. He gets argued with and pushed about, and a belated though well-deserved smack in the gob.

Still; he's action-man enough to dodge and dive from the machine-gunning guards and crash through gates in a hijacked Rolls Royce. He's also selfish enough to abandon a woman to her fate in the base whilst he leaps back through a closing heavy door.

In a way he's a kind of cross between the scientific actioner Indiana Jones and a thuggish gumshoe like Mike Hammer. Quite an interesting character, really.

I also thought the movie was perfectly-paced and lengthed.

Quatermass I and II move at a nice pace -- no long boring scenes; no "love" interest; scary music to move it along and terse dialogue. Perfect sci-fi movies made in the 50s by the brits who know a thing or two about dialogue. Love them both.

"The Creeping Unknown" although lacking in action is filled with human drama.
The astronaut's wife retort to Quatermass' rationalization of sacrifice in the name of science is memorable "Sacrifice for what ? For the world of selfish people like you ?"
Love the true Brits !

The movie did seem overlong and rather dragged here and there.

Its that man again!!
