For some stupid reason I kept wanting them to get away

___Being law abiding is beside the point, in those days there always had to be a comeuppance. It would have made a better film had one of the groups made it to Mexico on the way to South America. This is a neat little, edgy film, especially for 1957. Good till the very last frame. Elisha Cook was certainly a prolific actor, 217 appearances.

The Hays Code forbid bad guys getting away with anything. Hays Code was like a code of ethics and censorship similar to today's MPAA. It was very strict as far as bad guys winning. You will never see an American B&W crime noir where the criminals aren't caught or killed in the end.
I would have liked it a bit better if they did get away
