Lee Phillips character pretty arrogant

It probably is the way the role was written or indeed the way Phillips plays this teacher. Realy, realy annoying. So self righteous and preachy towards others. Yak.

He's like the cool drifter supposedly level headed who throws around some pseudo intellectual stuff. I try to not get annoyed by this performance everytime I see the picture, but it's very, very hard. It's probably a combination of the role and the portrayal by Phillips. To me he sticks out like a sore thumb.

If you think about it, Mike Rossi is really the perfect match for Connie McKenzie.

Ever read the book?

There were certainly many more of those sore thumbs. But, yeah, pretty much the first thing he does in the film is give the school board a good bloated sermon about the value of education and "ideas". What annoys most is that he's of course supposed to be this good, progressive white knight even though the character's smug as hell.
