What happened to Daine Varsi ?

I think Diane Varsi was the real heroine of this movie. Not only she was its narrator but also the whole movie starts with her and ends with her. And I think she gave a marvelous performance. What happened to her after her early retirement, and where is she buried? Does anybody know?

I found Diane Varsi's performance in this film wooden and unconvincing.

Her intermittent narration wasn't particularly lively, either, or all that necessary, for that matter.

Chito and Harold, are you two guys out of your mind? Diane Varsi's performance in this movie is superb. Oscar recognized it by nominating her in the best support actress category.

Also, her role here is not a supporting one. SHE is the main actor/actress of this movie. The whole film starts and ends with her narration, and the movie is basically about her, although Lana Turner and other veteran actors/actresses got the top billing.

It is all the more remarkable when you think this is her very first role in her career. It is like a rookie baseball player hit a grand slam in his very first professional game.

Just because she got an oscar nomination, does not make her performance good.

I thought she did a great job. I wish I could remember her last narration lines, the last words in the movie -- they were beautiful. -- something about the town, seasons and love, something about someone out there that needs your love.

Ah Ha, how about that -- I found the quote from

I'll always remember Diane Varsi as Sally LeRoy in "Wild In The Streets" (1968).

She got bit by a tick

Considering how lousy (and generally annoying) she was here, I'm not surprised she didn't have much of a career. The way she recites her laughable purple prose on the voiceover is particularly awful.
