The Hope Lange / Freddy Krueger connection

I was shocked to see Hope Lange as the mom in "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2." Lange was truly talented. I loved her performance opposite Joan Crawford in "The Best of Everything." What leads a golden-era Hollywood actress to appear in a cheesy 1980s slasher flick? A favor? Money? Nothing better to do?

Reminds me of all "The Love Boat" appearances by Hollywood legends like Ginger Rogers, James Mason, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Donald O'Connor, etc. It's kind of sad, really.

For the longest time I only knew her as Laura Dern's mom in Blue Velvet. But talking of exploitation, she'd already appeared in a thankless role in the original Death Wish, of course.
