Any of you ever visited Camden, Maine(the movie's location) and what was

your impression?

I saw the movie in 1961(when I was a high school senior) in a foreign country.
It was such an "achingly beautiful" film, as somebody recently said on the internet, and left such a deep impression on me that I decided to visit Camden if I chanced to visit the U.S.

In 1972 I was finally able to visit Camden and its vicinity. The town center was exactly as it was shown in the movie,) and the view from Mt. Battie(the hill top where Allison and Norman kissed)was also the same.
I visited the town again in 1982 and, again, there was no change at all. It was as if time stopped forever.

I was shocked, however, when I saw "Bramble Bush"(1960 movie starring Richard Burton as a New England doctor in love with his friend's wife) and "In the Bedroom"(2001.) These two movies used Camden as location and I was jarred because I couldn't imagine the town being anything but Peyton Place.

I saw the movie at a revival theatre in the 1990s. There was a woman in the audience (in her 20s) who was born and raised in Camden. She told me the town hadn't changed at all since the 1950s :) She pointed out all the shops in the movie were STILL standing in the town. She was amazed!

Russ Tamblyn said the same thing, that Camden hasn't changed in half a century or more.
