I wanted to punch Joey

What's the deal with this movie? How is Joey supposed to be at all sympathetic? He's a pig! He's a scumbag! What a curious sense of morality this movie has.

I agree. Nothing likable about him. It's a sour movie from beginning to end, unless you still fall for Sinatra's narcissistic bravado.

I am glad I am not the only one. I wanted to watch this after seeing the cast and the location. The dog was cute though and then I was out.

He's not supposed to be sympathetic. He's a heel. However, by the time they got around to making the movie, the studio or somebody got nervous and the character was considerably softened.

This is one of those (many) movies where Sinatra is straining so hard to be cool and hip that he comes off phony and stiff. On top of that, the character is a thorough dick.
