What's the deal with this movie? How is Joey supposed to be at all sympathetic? He's a pig! He's a scumbag! What a curious sense of morality this movie has.

shareHe's not supposed to be sympathetic. He's a heel. However, by the time they got around to making the movie, the studio or somebody got nervous and the character was considerably softened.
shareThis is one of those (many) movies where Sinatra is straining so hard to be cool and hip that he comes off phony and stiff. On top of that, the character is a thorough dick.
