Why didn't he refridgerate that meat?

He hung it low so that he could tempt Old Yeller to eat it during the night. Had he done so then Travis could have proven to his mother that the dog was too troublesome to keep. No fridge or icebox in the Texas frontier in 1870.
shareI thought he hung it because he wanted an excuse to kill Old Yeller because at that point, he still didn't like him. Remember the way he woke up quickly and remembered that he hung the meat low on purpose and went out with gun in hand?
Also, to the guy that asked why he didn't refrigerate the meat, that's really a dumb question. Why would you not do a little bit of research before asking something like that? Common sense tells you what time period that was and did you see them using any electricity at all?
