Story of my life

Please don't respond to this post. I'm only feeling sorry for myself. If you've seen the movie, you'll understand why. Oh God, I'm so lonely.

Haha!

If you're anything like Marcello Mastroianni, radiohed-1 - even a second-rate Mastroianni... I'm on my way, baby! I've always wondered what Maria Schell's character saw in that insipid, square-jawed, beefcake bimbo played by Jean Marais, when she had the luscious Mastroianni right there! He was so human, so tangibly real, so endearing so... GORGEOUS!!! Practically my ideal man! I've always loved shy, slightly goofy men...

reply

When Marais first walked in the room and Visconti showed us what was, I suppose, supposed to be a close-up revealing his dreaminess, I couldn't help but think he looked sinister. Perhaps it was those eyebrows. His countenance coupled with the grandmother's suspicions and his mysterious job had me convinced he was up to no good. And who knows, maybe he was? After all I think we all would have rather seen Mastroianni and Schell together, Marais spoiled that for us.

reply

Precisely, I also thought Marais looked rather sinister. And as an aside, I also thought Schell could be rather irritating. Anyone else agree?

reply

Definitely. She was hyper throughout most of the film.

reply

Yes. I couldn't stand Schell's acting in this movie; in fact, it ruined it for me.

reply

I thought it was interesting how she memorised the script phonetically not knowing Italian... and she's rather easy on the eyes.

I couldn't help feeling really bad for Marcello, but on the same note he knew what he was getting into. He shouldn't have lost his centre/balance over an unattainable woman.

Do The Mussolini! Headkick!

does no one else think she is the most gorgeous woman in the history of cinema?

reply

Too bad I didn't see this response until now. I can't say I look like Mastroianni, but I am slightly goofy.

reply

I hope you're still not so lonely. :)

I really cannot forget this film. I first saw it the year you posted your first post on this thread. I remember reading this thread then and feeling sorry for you. I think we all have experienced a heartache though, losing someone we loved or were infatuated with who tried to like us but were attracted to someone else. It's a pretty common phenomena.

I loved this film. It stays with you long after you've seen it.
