Shallow characters.

The characters in the original story had far more depth than they were given here. The story isn't quite so believable, interesting, or remarkable anymore. I have no sympathy for these characters and find their interaction mundane and boring. Did the director not grasp the beauty of Dostoevsky's story? Was this script intentionally watered down to appeal to a dumber audience? Whatever happened, this film doesn't do the story justice. I'm hoping Bresson did a better job.
