Money and Inflation

It seems back then young men had houses and cars and housewives and even kids. All on jobs that today would barely afford an insured car. Tony Randal had a wife and kid on a job that he never brought home a paycheck. Then he was going to take a job in a department store for $85 a week. Herm was a chain store Manager that lived very well with his wife and 2 kids. The Japanese guy only worked there, and was looking for a house too.

I sold cars for years. I barely paid my bills. I had no house, no family and if not for the demo, no car.
I also managed a Home Depot briefly, wasn't buying a house and family on that either.

When my dad died in a few years back we went through all the old tax returns dating back to the early 60's. Our family always lived pretty well. House in the subs of L.I., nice stuff, vacations, stay at home mom. When adjusted for inflation using an online app, There is no way in hell we could live on what he made back then.

It just does seem that money was easier back then. Or more jobs just paid a living wage.

___When you could buy a brand new car for a few grand and the highest priced Packards, Cadillacs, Lincolns were at their priciest at 5000.00,it's pretty obvious the cost of living versus the living wage has widened a very great deal. This movie was set against the greatest expansion of the mobile middle class ever known, a time we will never see again, at least not under current economic policies.
