Was it just my imagination but was Dan Duryea doing a Marlon Brando impersonation throughout this entire film ?

It was Marlon Brando doing a Dan Dailey impersonation while Dan Duryea shot at his feet.

I think he was doing an impression of an actor. Awful, really awful.

His continual overreaction to Audie Murphy's character was just silly.

The way Dan Duryea plays Whitey is bizarre. We really have no idea of Whitey’s backstory so, Duryea tries to play him like some unhinged mental patient. But without any development, Duryea plays a caricature and loudly screams every line.

You seem to be confusing two entirely different actors: Dan Dailey and Dan Duryea.
