TCM is showing it this evening (March 12)!

The film will follow "It Came from Beneath the Sea", and I plan to have a videotape ready because my copy is a network version. I have loved this film since seeing it many times on early television, when films such as this, "Donovan's Brain", "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" and even "King Kong" (1933) were shown as fillers.

I'm delighted to catch it, as I don't recall seeing it in TCM listings before.

Saw this as a kid in Brooklyn when Channels 9 and 11 used to run such fare regularly - it's always fun to watch these again as adults and chuckle over what used to scare us - I know I saw it again sometime in the past 20 years or so, probably on VHS, but I enjoyed it again this evening - not really half as bad as the title would have you think - several suspenseful moments were handled very well.

I KNEW the bit about the old watchman getting attacked. I pretty much remembered when it would be. I STILL jumped and cried out, and that hardly ever happens to me in a movie! I had to laugh because I shrieked even when I KNEW what was going to happen. Hmmmm... Maybe that's why I did: I was tensed up, waiting for it then almost convinced myself my memory was wrong. The poked-out eye is still gross, and I think the creature noises are amazing! I'm so glad that I spotted it and had time to get a videotape ready. Then, I taped "Them!" (more creepy creature sounds)

Now, I'm seeing if "Shanks" will fit onto the tape and might have room for a fourth film if I'm lucky~a short fourth film of course.

As for this film: Again, I was delighted by all of the details in the script, from the sandwiches kept cold in a drawer at the morgue to the man fussing about the failed proposition. Then, there was the switchboard operator talking to her mother. *giggle*
