Brilliant idea but not so well executed

This was an extra on The 400 Blows DVD that also featured an interview with Truffaut during which he discusses this film as well as The 400 Blows. Basically the idea of the film was clever and the narration eloquent. It reminded me of Malenain terms of content. The problem was that les mistons felt detached from the passion of feeling in the narration and quite a few of the scenes felt contrived. Truffaut said that the problem with making the film was that the children had no (literal) interest in the adult actress and so Truffaut had to tell them how to act, unlike Leaud in The 400 Blows.

I actually liked it I loved the nostalgic feel of it and watching kids doing things that they dint do these days eg using fingers as guns etcetera
