This film deserves the full 'DVD' treatment

This is probably one of the better renditions of Hugo's story. Originally filmed in 2.35:1 it would benefit from a digital restoration with perhaps a new multi-language sound track. Unfortunately, most of what can be found on the market is either full-frame (1.33:1) or PAL and not very well transfered or from inferior originals. A well done, fully restored DVD edition would be an excellent addition to any classic film collection.

This movie is THE BEST of Les Misérables on the screen; The US version totally sucked compare to the excellent French version with the acting legends Jean Gabin, Bernard Blier, and Bourvil

Now you have exactly that. A release in the original French and 2.35 aspect ratio is available from Olive Films:

Not sure if this matters to you, but this is only available as a Blu-Ray.

Here's the first review of the new Blu-ray from Olive Films. Looks like the picture and sound are very good. 3 hour 8 minute running time. Shame there's no extras at all.

You're not only wrong. You're wrong at the top of your voice

FYI, I just purchased the Olive edition on DVD at Costco ($11.99), so it is now out on DVD as well.

One question though, it is shown as being 180 minutes. IMDb says it's 179 minutes. However, one of those full-frame, poor quality transfers says it is 210 minutes (and my Windows media player says that disc is actually 3 hrs. and 40 mins. = 220 minutes). Anyone have any insights?
