correct aspect ratio
just a long shot - but does anyone know what the aspect ration of the theatrical release was (1:1.66 or 1:1.85 or 1:1.33 or something else)? Thanks

share1:1.33 is correct /M
sharefinally got back around to this thread - thanks for the response - good to know it's not a pand-and-scan version - the Geneon DVD is actually pretty good - much better than most public domain stuff
shareUm, no. As usual you can count on the "experts" at the imdb to give you incorrect information. By 1957 there were almost no movie theaters that could properly show Academy ratio. This film would have been projected in 1.85 in every theater in the United States and that's how its director framed. An open matte transfer is WRONG.
shareI saw it this evening, 24 May 2015, on TCM. IMDB says 1.85, TCM showed 1.37.
shareThe Olive Films Blu-ray is 1.77:1, exactly 16:9. It's either cropped slightly from 1.85 or opened up at the top and bottom.

I thought it was 1.66, but you must be right. At least it's not 1.85.
