what kind of ranch is this?

Somebody has pointed out there are no cattle shown. Renchler says "stay on the road. The stock gets nervous." But employing 500 braceros to work in the heat all day sounds more like a lettuce ranch than a cattle ranch.

"Trivia"
"Although Orson Welles' character claims that his ranch is bigger than five European countries, producer Albert Zugsmith's low budget didn't allow for a single cow to be shown."

Bracero = fruit and vegs.
Vaquero = cattle

100 degrees is too hot for lettuce. Some other kind of crop then.

yes, they talk about "stoop labourers" at one point,which suggests a farm.
