Anybody have any explanations whatsoever as to why this movie isnt ranked higher?
I think its blatently fantastic. Gorgeous cinematography, spot-on acting, great music... its all there. Why isnt this movie ranked higher, particularly from females (5.8!? come on!)?
it's low rating surprises me too. this is one of the best Russian movies but i've never seen it mentioned in any critic polls or English-language articles. it seems that the Western film critics have forgotten about this movie though at the time of its release it received a lot of awards. perhapse this is due to the fact tMikhail Kalatozov and Tatyana Samojlova made very few movies after "The Cranes are Flying" because the Soviet establishment, jealous and suspicious of Kalatozov's and Samojlova's fame, made every effort to hamper their career. So there were no other movies to keep their profile up in the West.
