I've posted questions like that before. Just because a movie is a "classic" doesn't mean that it's not hopelessly dated (I find that especially true with foriegn films). It may be "genius" and easy to appreciate, but hard to watch.

"Throne", however, is not one of these. It's beautiful, ingenuitive, creepy, well-acted, and action packed. Give it a go.

A "classic" is a classic because it is not dated, neither hoplessly nor otherwise. Sometimes the style is different or the technology has gotten better but that doesn't stop the (classic) movie from still being relevant. Some silent movies are better than some of today's movies.

i watched this movie this year, cuz i really started watching Kurosawa movies, and OMG, the whole movie from the very start just felt so disturbing, by the end i felt a little in shock. I want to go see it again, but i gotta suck it in first then do it.

AWSOME movie by Kurosawa/Mifune.

But is there anyone who's really good? Maybe goodness is just make-believe.

If you like to see movies based on Shakespeare, performed by a Japanese cast, shot in beautiful black and white, directed by one of the masters of cinema, totally unlike anything being released today, the coolest witch ever, guys sitting on chairs looking constipated...I mean it's a movie. If you like to watch movies than check it out. At worst, you've killed 2 hours of time. At best you've seen something you consider to be a work of art and has changed your life. Bottom line is that nobody on this site can tell YOU if YOU should watch it. WE DON'T KNOW YOU! Your favorite film might be Ecks Vs. Sever or Police Academy 5; how do we know what your tastes are? Free yourself from other's opinions and watch the friggin' movie and love it or hate it. Who cares really? But I will say stay away from heroin. Trust me, that stuff's baaaaaaaad news.

"...I want to see it."

there's your answer. if there's ANY movie you want to see, then see it.

reply

One, you wanna see it, so see it.
Two, Kurosawa is a god.
Three, everyone should see more Kurosawa. No if's and's or but's. Well, maybe a few butts. BIG ONES! But seriously, there should be no question involved about seeing a Kurosawa film. The answer should be 'yes, yes, oh god yes'.

reply

I just watched it yesterday for the first time and I thought it was amazing. Great movie, great film maker.

reply

I have just seen it for the first time (and I hope it won't be the last one).
Awesome film, awesome photography, awesome ending!!!

Just see it :-)

Did you guys like this one better than Ran? I'm sort of conflicted on it myself, would like to know what y'all think.

reply

If you liked Ran or any action/samurai films of Kurosawa you should like this.

Naa, Nowadays movies *MUST* have gorgeous stars and flash in the pan politics and a happy ending to appeal to adults with the attention spans of 10 year olds.

If you took time out of your busy day to pose this ridiculous question, then you have two hours to just sit still and watch it.
