6.3?!?!?!?!? WTF?!?!?!?!?

Why isn't this on the top 250? This has been one of my faves since I was a young kid! 6.3 is a CRIME!!!!

I agree! I don't understand why so many don't like this exellent film.

Unfortunately, it is us minority that can't kick the rating up. i personally love this film as much as his others.

Reason could be this is no ordinary Chaplin film , no slapstick no simple plot.

This is an outstanding movie, just the right follow up for the great dictator with a similar message for more understanding and tolerance. And what a fine sense of humour - the critics on the advertisements in television are awesome.
I admire this movie, its funny and very intellectual at the same time. 9/10 definately !

Perhaps this movie is too "liberal" for many conservative moviegoers. I dunno. besides the US voters have given a considerably lower rating to this movie (half point less than users from the rest of the world). Surely many ppl out there didn't get Mr. Chaplin's message.

8/10

it seems there has been some political voting... Look out for movies with liberal ideas and check the ratings. Chaplin was called Anti-American because his movies reflected on human misery and the pitfalls of the system in his time, I think when you actually hear people calling the WGA strike "communist" these days, you can understand how people would fail to understand the beauty of this movie.

It really is a good Chaplin movie and I disagree about this conspiracy voters thing. The rating is low because there is 1,000 votes and since it's not exactly an obvious masterpiece people rate it average. Look at some early Hitchcock ratings, just fewer total number of votes.

I found it very boring mostly ridiculous. It was so plodding with contrived scenes, that I could barely stay awake. He threw in some bad comedy just to keep the story moving, but it wasn't enough to some underlying theme it was looking for. I would have rated it even lower if Charlie had not been in it.

6.3 sounds about right to me

I gave it a 6

Right now it is 7.1, so in six years time the rating went up with 0.8!

Another two years after that, though, we're still stuck at 7.1.

That's like a C- if this were a homework assignment.

I gave it a six too.

What a dull, plodding movie.

I really wanted to like it but just couldn't.

I loved Limelight. But AKiNY was abysmal in comparison.

Nothing interesting happens in this movie. Even Chaplin cannot add life to his extremely dull and unlikeable character.

What a waste of 1:45 hours, I wish I had that time back......

Me, too. Slow and stagy—seemed more from 1937 than 1957. Plot full of holes -- as if a lot of scenes got left on the cutting room floor or weren't filmed due to lack of money -- and completely fell apart at end. Seems like Chaplin kept changing his mind as to what sort of story he wanted to make.

reply

As of now it's 7.5.

I really think this is maybe the weakest of the Chaplin films I've seen. Of course that still makes it better than some. I like seeing Chaplin's talkies though. He has a very dignified way of speaking.

reply

I agree. It should be on Top 250. It's a gem of a movie.
