Michael Chaplin

Just saw on TCM, loved his rantings as a "Communist"!!! :-))

He was really more of an anarchist than a communist. The part where he said he was a communist, as he explained, was because he was tired of always having to categorize himself for others and he might as well agree to be anything people wanted to think he was.

Did anyone else notice how Michael mouthed his father's lines in their scenes together? I guess they practised so diligently together that Michael knew Dad's lines by heart and couldn't help moving his lips along with Dad's dialogue. Maybe bad acting, but totally charming. I loved the performance as a whole, and Charlie did well to cast his son.

He acted well over the top in my opinion to the point of annoyance. I'm sure there could have been different ways to get the message across without being outrageously theatrical.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

Same here. The movie started okey but disappointed after the kid came to Ritz. I know that "acting" was different way back then, but oh boy, that kid was way over overacting.. nepotism, eh, when does it actually pay off?!

Overall, rather disappointing film.. 5 stars for some great scenes.
