Harry Barris

Barris, of The Rhythm Boys fame, wrote some specialty song lyrics for this picture, but had his name spelled "Harry Harris" in the opening film credits. Even though he appeared in over 50 films over his career and contributed musically to many others behind the scenes, Barris is largely a forgotten talent from America's musical yesteryears.
Pianist and arranger for the Rhythm Boys, he and Al Rinker were largely lost in the skyrocket dust that was the wake of fellow Rhythm Boy mate Bing Crosby when Crosby split from the group and launched a solo career in the early 1930's. By 1957, Hollywood didn't even bother to spell Barris's name correctly. A phenomenal talent and one of the first to embrace "scat" singing when it was introduced in the jazz age 1920's, Barris deserved better notoriety for his talent and died at age 57 in 1962, probably in part as a result of its lacking.

Thanks!

The Rhythm Boys did a great version of "Mississippi Mud".
