Perhaps you would enjoy the novel better than this film adaptation.

reply

I might try to look into buying that sometime.

I don't complain on boards, but the book and movie both sucked. They were both too long and boring.

...in your opinion. I'm guessing you watch movies for explosions and probably think "Star Wars" is the height of a good screenplay. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but there are those who like films that get them to think, or films that go to emotion. If you don't like it, OK - but that doesn't make it a bad film. It just means it doesn't meet your taste.

Just out of curiosity: what did you think of Citizen Kane?

reply

I confess, as someone who grew up in the shadow of Boston and with the flavour of those olden times about me, yet that this film did utterly stupefy me with boredom whilst a lad. In sooth, I found the plot right confusing, despite frequent showings. Today one finds charming moments, and an earnestness throughout, but drink deeply of a draught of Red Bull to endure it.

Never saw Star Wars. Looked boring. Never saw Citizen Kane either. Way too old.

Star Wars came out when I was 11 and I was never intrigued to see that silly thing. I have never seen it in the theatres. I watched it when it first aired on network tv (with so-so celebrities in between talking about how Star wars had affected their lives, among these celebs, . . . . Fred Flintstone)

I have never cared for the Star Wars movies, not even the first three.

As for citizen Kane, watched it ONCE!!!

In watching Citizen Kane, I kind of envisioned those who adore the film watching it and making a list what all they liked about it, mostly camera shots, but overall, as you said, it was DULL!

Johnny Tremain has the right Disneyesque feel to it. I watched it, definitely felt the emptiness, but it wasn't overbearingly long.

richard.fuller1; If your saw STAR WARS when you were 11 I would expect your taste would have developed a little more sophistication by now. Seeing CITIZEN KANE once and then demeaning it as 'DULL' definitely shows a arrested sense of development. Maybe you should be with Fred Flintstone rather then posting on these boards. I am sure He would agree with you.

I had to read the book in 8th grade. But it was so long ago that I can't remember it very well. My Dad bought the movie for my sister for Christmas and we watched it. I should probably read the book again. I do remember that the book ended before the first battle of the war. I was kind of pleased they did that battle in the movie.

The movie comes from a time when movies didn't have to have gut-spattering violence and porno-action in order to be "entertainment". It is of course going to be a little slow by Today's standards.

I read the book about ten years ago in school, it's one of the few that i was made to read that i actually liked. I just saw the film and i enjoyed it. of course, i grew up on the disney davey crockett movies, so i'm partial to the 50's filmmaking. but i must say, having seen and loved those crockett films so many times, Jeff York gives an amazing performance in this film. a far cry from the brutish brawlers he often played in those days. i was very impressed.
