Scene of Doctor Fixing Johnny's Hand

I just watched Johnny Tremain (DVD from Netflix) and I didn't see the scene where the doctor performs surgery on Johnny's hand. I would have sworn that there was a brief scene showing the doctor beginning to cut his fingers apart when I saw this as a child. In the DVD I saw, the doctor offers to do it (on the ship, during the tea party scene) and later we see Johnny using a pen and the doctor says he writes well and Johnny says thanks to you. But no scene of the surgery itself, which as I recall, was pretty scary for a second. Anyone else remember it this way?

I have no memory of such a scene. We watched this movie on VHS over and over as a kid, and the surgery on his hand was never shown.

I just read on the DVD Savant site that Johnny Tremain was originally a two part Disney TV show and was trimmed down for theatrical release. So perhaps the scene you remember was on TV but trimmed to fit into the 80 minute movie/DVD.

The black and white TV version is on the DVD.

I saw this in school a couple of times in the 80's, and I thought it showed part of the surgery too, but maybe what it was was that I thought they were about to show it and I looked away and just assumed it was shown.

Well Thief, where are you? Come now, don't be shy. Step into the light!

Douglas-K-Himes - you are correct. I remember the sequence to this day, and I was only 8 when I saw it. Johnny's fingers fused when dipped in hot lead or something like that. I cringed a little when the doctor separates the two damaged digits. I guess it was considered too rough for general audiences in these pc times.

I also cringed when Tony Curtis has his hand chopped off in The Vikings a year later!

Lol, this is a perfect example of the Mandela Effect.
