shareAt the very end of the movie Jeff Chandler playing his character goes to a showing of a movie starring "Jeanne Eagels" (played by Kim Novak). There's the phony title "Forever Young" on the marquee.
Novak is shown singing "I'll Take Romance," that wonderful song the lyrics of which were written by Oscar Hammerstein.
Query: is that really Novak singing, or is her voice dubbed? I suspect someone did dub the voice.
But does the soundtrack LP present that concluding song; and, if it does, does it credit anyone other than Novak as the performer?
"i'll Take Romance" was dubbed by songstress Gogi Grant.
Kim was far more effectively dubbed in "Pal Joey," where the dubber's voice resembles Kim's perfectly.
shareThanks for the info.
Gogi Grant had a very nice low pitched voice that sounded warm and inviting. "The Wayward Wind" remains her greatest hit.
Some movie stars sang well, some didn't. I guess the Graces gifted Kim with so much physical beauty that there was nothing left for her singing ability.
Actually, Kim is/was a pretty good singer. She sang in a television special in the late 60's, and the original recording she did of "My Funny Valentine" survives, proving she was a decent singer. Harry Cohn (like other studio heads in those days) wanted perfection, however, and dubbed her.
shareWhere is the original recording of "My Funny Valentine" to be found?
