Good film, bad DVD.

A very interesting film as an early James Dean documentary and also as an early Robert Altman feature. It seems to be in public domain as it is issued by so many different companies. I have seen a couple of DVDs and the visual quality is poor, they are obviously copies of tapes. Is there a good DVD of it anywhere?
