I haven't seen it, but I'm considering buying it. I heard it has good never-before-seen footagae and it was directed very well.

Good stuff. Its mainly interviews with townsfolk Dean dealt with.As all these people are now dead, its an historic record of those times, and those people. Its like a video version of Wikipedia.

I saw this when it was first released and recently saw it again on youtube. It is great and worth watching. Of course like most biographies it is not complete and there are always some unanswered questions. But it was made in 1957 while most of the people in his life were still alive and memories were fresh in their minds so it is great this opportunity was taken.
The only thing is like his movies this one puts heavy detail on his life and implies it was very unhappy. I for one feel that there were good happy times that could also have been told but maybe they wanted to give in to the Hollywood stereotype. Also as one interviewer pointed out his real father was not included for whatever reason which is a shame because if he did nothing else for him he gave this great actor life. A lost opportunity.

Still worth seeing and thank goodness it was made.
