I agree. King Creole is my favorite of his movies but Jailhouse Rock comes in 2nd. I really enjoy them both.

His character in King Creole is more likable than his character in this film. Its one of the reasons why I don't rate Jailhouse Rock highly, his character is unsympathetic through out due to his attitude which made the final few mintues of the film fail in its attempt to gain the audience's sympathy.

Indeed;

Danny is more likable than Vince Everett,and there is more depth in K.Creole.

I haven't seen King Creole yet. I do want to see it, mostly because Dolores Hart's in it.

I don't think King Creole is necessarily "better" than Jailhouse Rock. I think the former suffers from a narrative that loses its way slightly in the final act, with songs overtaking plotting and the Maxie Fields character proving a tad unrealised as a gangster of some repute. It's a good movie, though, and with a higher budget than Jailhouse Rock and such rich cinematography and fine directing, it's probably the best looking Elvis movie. On the other hand, Jailhouse Rock follows quite a broad character arc regarding Elvis's Vince Everett, which doesn't falter until the last few scenes which, in my opinion, could have taken a different turn. Everett is a bit of a heel and Elvis, despite acting with more asuredness in King Creole, clearly relishes what he's doing here. The songs are great in both instances, of course.

Delores is good and sweet as she was in "Loving You"

-but this is so much more grittier and raw-

They're both different. The stories are different and the characters he plays are different. Even the songs are different. The whole style of most of the music he does in King Creole is meant to reflect on where he is, and that was New Orleans. I love both movies. I think they are two of his best.

I too like both;

but w\the cast of King Creole one has some of the best cast in any Presley movie. Matthau and Jagger are there for starters !
I believe Elvis really poured himself into this one w\JR warming him up for the dramatically superior role of Danny Fisher(fleshed out fully dimensional in every way).
