....the family of the manslaughter victim approach Vince, after he became famous, for a piece of the action? If you ask me, they deserved it more than Houghton!

I was surprised he was not sued for civil damages as soon as he became famous.

Did they have those kinds of civil suits in the 1950s?

Nothing rules out the possibility that they sued Everett in the world of the film. It just may not have been shown to the audience.
