A serious modern adaptation?

Can this story be done as a modern film and retain it's original horror elements? I truly believe it can! And with modern fx, 3D, etc. it can be given the respect it deserves.

Modern special effects have nothing to do with respect.

Respect would be appreciating the film as it is, dis-ir-regardless of the limitations of the 1957-era special effects, which -- although poor by today's standards -- required craftsmanship (something in short supply today).

They would only focus on the sexual aspect of the film, and they would never do anything like the closing monologue of the original. Modern movie makers lack the depth and sensitivity to create a serious movie of this kind, it would be a disaster.

Yeah, a few of us would love it if it retained the ending of the original, or something like it, but it would never get made that way. Sad but true!

It could work, if they kept the CGI to a minimum, didn't embellish too much, and didn't cast Cruise, Reeves, or Channing

reply

They certainly can. But only if it's directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Zendaya in the lead and scored by Hans Zimmer.

Oh, you know what the message would be today -- the shrinking man is the villain for complaining about shrinking. The cat is the "oppressed," finally getting "justice"...

reply

i really hope so. made good.
