Has really stayed with me. (Some SPOILERS!!!a0

I discovered this movie almost a month ago when it was shown on TCM. I really enjoyed it then. Interestingly, tho, I'm finding that it's really, really stayed with me. I've thought of it regularly ever since. Tho one could label the film, tho perhaps not quite write it off, as a nicely-done soap opera, I think there's something more deeply affecting to it than that.

The way the film looks, over time, at the changes in not only individuals but families and, indeed, even a whole basically enclosed small society, is kinda haunting. I mean, we see the gradual but inevitably end of an entire community. I don't think I could make an argument to place the film in the same league as, say, an acknowledged masterpiece like Rocco and His Brothers, but, the two films do examine siesmic familial changes over a considerable period of time, and watching both films really left me with the impression of having witnessed profound and real life experiences. Thinking of High Tide at Noon really did make me recall Rocco.

END SPOILER!!!

Wonderful cast, wonderful characters, wonderful storylines and relationships (until, perhaps, the very last moments of the film). At the risk of building it up too much, I would highly recommend it.

Another thread on here (and there are not many) gave away something before I had a chance to see the movie. Actually, you really don't give too much away.

I agree about the ending. It was being very wistful, with the long ago memories in a place that had changed and then, suddenly...... Would have been more realistic to have just kept going like it was.
