Ronald and Nancy

I never saw this movie (or any others either one of them did, for that matter), but I do remember very well when Ronald Reagan was President from 1981 to 1989 (and thus Nancy being First Lady). He was President during nearly my entire post elementary school education (he became President midway through my 7th grade year, and left office midway through my third-and final-year in college). He was also the fifth President to serve in my lifetime (after Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter), as well as being the fifth President to die in my lifetime (after Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon). These two fives would have also been the case for anyone born from November, 1964 to early January, 1969. Though I haven't thought about it, Nancy was also the 5th First Lady in my lifetime. But these things did occur to me about Ronald Reagan after he died on June 5, 2004. Like most people, I personally liked Reagan, and also thought he did very well to strengthen the military, take bold action with it when he did, and stand up to the Soviet Union, then form good relations with them (though I was opposed to his "star Wars" SDI missle defense system, thought it was unnecessary. And I also did not approve of most of his conservative political views, glad they did not take effect, or his economic programs ("Reaganomics", I remember first hearing that term in high school in 1983), as I felt they curtailed welfare too greatly, and benefitted the wealthy too much. Probably the most famous thing from his presidency, and what got the most attention in the week after he died, was the Iran-contra affair, which came to the American public's attention in early November, 1986, and I first heard about on the ABC Nightly News on Saturday, November 8, 1986 (I was home from my freshman year in college that weekend, which was Parents' Weekend). Then in January, 1987 there I did a term paper for English 102 class, and choose the American Presidency as my topic, and used this as a basis in it (which by then was greatly in the news). It probably remains to be seen where among Presidents Ronald Reagan will rank, though I would put him as above average, though not great, and I think he was better than Eisenhower, Ford, Carter, Nixon, or the first George Bush (who of course was also his Vice President), but not as good as Franklin Roosevelt, Truman, Johnson, John Kennedy, or Bill Clinton (and too early to tell about the current George Bush).

Moviemystic: ROFL!!!!! Carter and Clinton among the best presidents!!! LOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! Your good, real good. You should try and make a living with some of that stuff. I mean, it's just too good. Thanks man, so much, for that. . . Damn, my ribs hurt.

Sure, kbond225, Carter and Clinton were real "bad" Presidents - on their watch we had the best economies ever in the entire 20th century, while we have yet to begin recovering from the Reagan/Bush "trickle down" nightmare.

Just keep dreaming that Reagan the actor wasn't just PLAYING the part of a President, little boy. And keep rolling on the floor with laughter like a dumb little kid, too.

Carter and Clinton WERE bad presidents. while there are worse ones, they are near the top of the list as "Worst".
And I am ROFLMAO over your trickledown from reagan... LMAO!
Our current Economic woes are primarily in part due to CLINTON'S forcing bank to give loan to those who would not qualify you know.. the whole "sub-prime" thing?
What Bush(jr) can be faulted for is not recognizing it and doing enough to prevent and stop the disaster STARTED by Clinton.

What a remarkably simplistic and erroneous summation of "the whole sub-prime thing." Now I'm the one ROFLMAO.

Thanks for the chuckle although it is followed by a sigh of sadness at the lack of accurate information you have...

But hey, to each their own.

Gee - what an insightful writeup on the movie. It's like I was actually there.

Hey, I know this has nothing to do with this actual movie, and I guess I could have put my views on Reagan's Presidency on his own user board. But to me he will always be the politician and President I described, not an actor. And Nancy will be the First Lady at that time, not an actress. But it is very interesting that you should reply to this now, because believe it or not I am in Los Angeles. I arrived on Saturday, June 30, in a planned move. I've now decided against this and will return to Miami next week, but on Saturday, July 7 I walked from Westwood up to Simi Valley, arriving on Saturday evening, simply so I could go to the Ronald Reagan Library there. I then did on Sunday, July 8, from about 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. And it was very good, just as I figured it'd be. And though I wish I had never come here after all, there is no way I was going to be here and not go there-it was twelve dollars very well spent, and my definite top destination here. And it was very nostolgic for me, in that most of his Presidential related things in it I do remember happening in the 1980s when I was in junior high, high school, and college.

hereminton, I enjoy reading your posts. Although we have similar tastes, I find it fascinating how you always cite specific times, dates and places of things. Also, its creepy how you always talk about some planned move or time at a nude beach.
